In the wake of the demise of Queen Elizabeth II, sporting events across Britain have been put on hold.

The Premier League, along with other prominent British sporting organizations, have declared that no contests or competitions will be held this weekend as a tribute to the Queen’s passing.

Premier League clubs convened this morning to deliberate on the weekend’s fixtures, and all teams reached a consensus to postpone all matches, encompassing Monday night’s encounter between Leeds United and Nottingham Forest, as a gesture of respect.

The Queen breathed her last yesterday (September 8th) at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, concluding a reign that spanned seven decades.

“We, along with our clubs, aim to pay homage to Her Majesty’s extended and steadfast service to our nation,” stated Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters. “As our longest-serving monarch, she has been a source of inspiration for us all, leaving behind an exceptional legacy following a lifetime of dedication.

“This is a profoundly sorrowful period for our nation and for all those who held her in high regard across the globe, and we join everyone in lamenting her passing.”

The English Football League (encompassing the three divisions below the Premier League) has also proclaimed the postponement of all scheduled matches today and throughout this weekend.

The Irish Football Association has also declared that all soccer games in Northern Ireland will be put on hold this weekend.

The announcement of the Queen’s demise was made just before the commencement of last night’s European Football League match.

The British Equestrian Authority revealed earlier today that all horse racing events today and tomorrow will be called off, but will restart on September 11th.

The cricket test match between England and South Africa was called off today at the Oval in London, while the second day of the London Golf PGA Championship was also called off near Wentworth.

The cycling race, the Tour of Britain, has canceled its final three stages in Gloucestershire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight.

In rugby union, the scheduled Premiership Rugby Cup match between Northampton Saints and Saracens last night was canceled, but decisions on other matches this weekend are still pending.
